The Soloist model shares specifications with Holton's popular model H378 with the important exception of a rose brass bell on the Soloist to help darken the tone and blend better with orchestral instruments. The medium large (as opposed to large) bell throat gives it a little more power in the upper register and improves its nimbleness. IMHO those features make it very suitable for brass quintet (or other small ensembles), a setting in which I have played this horn for years.Cosmetically, this horn is a 7-8 out of 10 with lacquer wear and scratches in places most noticeably on the bottom bow and a number of small dings and wrinkles here and there mostly in the bell and throat. Overall it is still very presentable and looks nice from more than a few feet away. No major dents or other trauma. All braces are solid. No signs of previous major repair work.It scores much higher mechanically and in terms of how it plays and sounds. The valves are buttery fast and quiet with good compression. The slides are all snug and move easily (with the possible exception of the Bb independent tuning slide which moves but just needs a little extra oomph; this one rarely if ever needs adjustment anyhow). Plays and sounds great with very good intonation in all registers.Includes Holton Farkas Model MDC mouthpiece in excellent condition and original hardshell case with "Soloist" nameplate. Case has exterior scuffs but otherwise in very good condition, hardware all working fine, clean inside with no unpleasant aroma. Shipping by FedEx ground insured. Flat shipping fee $50. If actual shipping is less I will refund you the difference. Returns gladly accepted per eBay standard policy. Thanks for looking!
