1954 57,xxx Mark VI alto saxophone with approximately 98% original lacquer remaining. The sax is nearly in mint condition and it has developed into a beautiful dark molasses color. The neck is original to the horn and has a matching s/n.The horn was just overhauled by Eric Beach, using Pisoni Pro pads and reusable Reso-Tech metal resonators. Eric's pad work and key fitting is world class, and this horn plays with incredible ease and fluidity top to bottom. A small ding was repaired near the base of the neck, and the neck was adjusted for correct geometry. Otherwise, the horn is very straight and shows no evidence of any major repair or dent work. The sax comes in a vintage Selmer triple case that is in decent condition, however some of the felt needs to be refastened. The horn has great punch and articulation, with a wonderful solid and ringing core to the sound. This is an incredibly fun horn that practically plays itself. Selmer's attempt to recreate this 1954 Mark VI with their Reference 54 is almost laughable. Nothing against the Reference 54, but it is not the same as a 1954 Mark VI. When horns like this come along, it seems like a no brainer to take the plunge and get the real thing for around the same price as a new Reference 54.
