Here's the story...In 1998, I was browsing in the drum department of the Guitar Center on Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles. I told the salesman, Jim Haler (a regional sales manager at the time) that I was interested in the line of solid shell snares being offered by Drum Workshop (DW). I wanted to know the differences in sound from the various wood options (cherry, walnut, oak, etc. Jim said he didn't know so he actually called Johnny Craviotto and let me talk to him directly. Johnny "C" - a VERY nice man - spoke to me at length about the various sound differences in the types of wood. I like a very warm sound so he suggested the solid walnut shell. I also told him that I preferred 6 1/2 inch deep shells over the standard 5 1/2 depth, which was the ONLY depth offered by DW for these specific drums. Without hesitation, Mr. Craviotto told me to order the drum in the exact configuration that I wanted and he would build it. I received the drum approximately 3 months later and it was the nicest snare I've ever owned. All brass hardware - tube lugs, cast hoops and butt plate and the DW strainer. It's a wonderful drum. I'm parting with this drum after 18 years. It's in wonderful condition. The coated Ambassador batter head is almost new. I will include a padded BEATO bag snare case. If you want additional pictures, please ask. If you need additional information, please ask.Sadly, Johnny Craviotto passed away in July, 2016. These drums are his legacy.
