Description
I am pleased to offer a few of my better banjos at auction and privately. Here is a truly rare banjo, a late 1920's Vegaphone Deluxe Tenor. Vega made many tenors because many violin players learned that they could become tenor banjo players more easily because they were familiar with tuning of the strings of their violins in 5ths GDAE, so the Tenor tuned CGDA was an easy transition from the violin. Everybody, you see, wanted to play Jazz Music and most all the jazz bands had to have a banjo. This tenor has 19 Frets, with a magnificent carved heel, original matching number instrument, rare abalone inlaid rim, has a straight neck with gorgeous inlays of engraved pearl. The frets are original or original style without divoting of any significance. The tuners are original to the era, pearl buttoned gold planets. Some of the 1920s Vegas of high quality had friction tuners and players would upgrade to these planets. The resonator is enriched with hand carved pyralin celluloid. and please note the elaborate engraved resonator flanges as well as tension hoop. The Ottinger tailpiece signed "deluxe" is original.Comes with its original velvet zip in liner case, still usable.I have restored hundreds of banjos and antiques over the years but when an unrestored original example surfaces, the temptation is to immediately dive in and restore to the condition it was when it left the factory. Some even "over restore" to what is often a hideous result. If you get this fine banjo and want to freshen it up a bit, Ill happily share my experience and tricks to preserve and maintain its originality and finishes. This instrument is offered unrestored I will entertain creative ways to make it possible for you to own this fine and rare instrument. Please read between the lines here if you'd really like to own it.Questions Call Mike.......864-934-4308Shipping with insurance is $75.Please pay immediately with Paypal or contact me for other payment options.
