Important note! When I put this guitar on Auction some information in the "Ask a question?" was lost. It regarded the pups, which were identified by my (and Richard Anderson, the axe-owner RIP '1/4/91') luthier at the time, Bill Fels, co-owner of The Guitar Factory in Orlando, as being Hamer, neck AND bridge. Struck him oddly. Bill stated that it looked like all the soldering was done tight, clean, and at the same time. During the sale I had been informed, by a well-meaning "watcher", a guitar enthusiast from Down Under <cool!> that ALL of the "The Paul" guitars had Tim Shaw PAF pups installed, as Shaw had been brought in to try to keep Gibson competitive, during the late 70s, early 80s, Gibson's maybe darkest days. Apparently this was not always the case, about Tim Shaw pups. I remember an interview about that time, about Gibson's decline with Rick Nielson of Cheap Trick. He had made a comment about, "how surprised we would be to know how many Hamer parts were installed in Gibson's" during that troubled time. This stuck in the back of my mind. (Nielson bought his Explorers from......Hamer!) Gibson moved it's operations to Nashville, from Kalamazoo, MI. SADNESS!! BUT!!!! Blah-bitty blah-blah-blah and, now, .........the rest of the story.... GOOD DAY!On the Auction counter is true vintage, The Paul. If Ken Parker (Parker guitars) and Orville (Gibson) had created a guitar together in the late 70's (before carbon-fiber was a consumer item) it could very well have looked and played like "the Paul". Briefly, as there are other examples to view 'round here, the body is cut to the outside VOS of a Les Paul, but instead of being capped with a veneer, over an arched top, the body is sculpted to conform to the body much like a Strat. Far more comfortable, but the playability is all (LES) PAUL! Very stable, close action, a thrill to play. Holds pitch; nice TOTL Grovers.A 36 year old ax, the original bridge pickup (a HAMER, 10.8ohm), was split, to increase versatility. The results did not meet with the standards of the Richard, th owner, and was exchanged with the coveted Seymour Duncan SH-4 (14.8ohms), with a 3-way toggle to get the most out of the pickup; parallel, single-coil, series. Bill Fels of the Guitar Factory here in Orlando, did the original Hamer-split, and the following pup exchange, with toggle. The toggle was placed in the same layout as the Les Paul Artist, so it conforms with Gibson design. No additional routing was necessary, as the control cavity was enlarged by Gibson to accommodate the pup toggle, which on ALL "Les" Pauls, is on the upper bout. Comes with a period correct hard-shell ("chainsaw", live and learn) case. The bottom metal buckle (I see some period-corrects have plastic "buckles"!) was lost through many load ins and outs, as I had bought the case for a Wing-series Washburn, my #1 at the time, in the 80's. The Paul fits like a glove, and the other buckles are tight, making this a snug-fitting case.14-day money back return. Please communicate.
