Here it is, the real deal. If you are looking at this listing, you are familiar with the legendary Gibson "Black Beauty" Les Paul Custom. You will be hard pressed to find a cleaner example of this legendary axe.
We acquired this guitar from the ORIGINAL owner, who bought it brand new in 1958 from a store in Minneapolis. Unfortunately, he could not provide the original receipt. He recalled the time when he was getting divorced, and left the house with this guitar, his 1959 Gibson J-45, and the clothes on his back! Everything about the guitar checks out 100%: no cracks, repairs, and ALL the parts are original, including the Grover tuners that Gibson started using in late 1958. It even has the ORIGINAL flatwound strings that were on the instrument when it was purchased. They are definitely sounding a little dull, but we couldn't bring ourselves to change them. It spent the next 50+ years mostly in the case, and was played rarely and never gigged. The owner preferred his acoustic guitar, explaining to us, "it was just too much work to take the electric out and plug it into the amp and all that."   Weighing in at 10 pounds, 4 ounces, this guitar is unbelievably clean given its age. Stunning condition. As you vintage collectors know, the gold plating on the pickups is very fragile. We believe the wear on the pickups came from finger oil that was not wiped off, and not from excessive use.  Headstock has some VERY slight finish checking, but is difficult to notice, normal for its age and less than expected. The Grover tuners work well and it hold the guitar's tune perfectly. The frets and fretboard are immensely clean with minimal signs of wear. The gold hardware has some wear as previously mentioned, but it is slight and not unsightly. The face of the body looks astounding. There are a few slight nicks and scratches on the side of the body, and a minor scratch on the back of the body. All things considered, this guitar is in EXCEPTIONAL condition. In the next few years, especially with the 60th anniversary approaching, these will only appreciate in value. Included is the original hardshell case (which is in AMAZING condition), and a picture of the original owner holding the guitar. SHIPMENT WILL BE IN THE FORM OF PERSONAL DELIVERY OR LOCAL PICKUP ONLY.
