The older Taylors are better than the new ones.The woods were better then as were the factory fret job style; done with the fret tangs not cut, which has a smoother feel and is better looking. When they cut the tangs it is a production shortcut (resulting a lesser good feel & appearance.I compared about a dozen Ovangkol 414 models before choosing this particular 1. The main thing I looked for was good looking woods and especially the "blend" of the 2 pieces of wood which make up the heel of the neck near the body. On many Taylors this separation is very visible but on this one it is done very perfectly (see Photo) and is almost not noticeable that it is 2 pieces of wood. This is a part of the guitar that is very visible to the player. (Go look at the Taylors in your local music store and you will see what we are talking about).This one has great sound and the N.T. (New Technology) Taylor neck has been professionally set perfectly for low even playing action up and down the neck.The A string has a "very cute" little home repair square knot done by myself (see Photo)after I accidently tuned it to the wrong octave. I the didn't want to break up another set of strings so I didn't bother to change the string; and now it stays in tune no problem, and it is a conversation piece & interesting to look at (rather than break up a new set of strings ( However, a new fresh set of the same xlnt Tomastik George Benson Jazz Strings is included; (same as what's on the guitar now). I play it only acoustically, so I never bothered to reconnect the one wire inside the guitar which for some reason came loose but is an easy repair if you want to. (The wire is not actually hanging loose inside the guitar, but rather neatly tucked away to the side. Personally I only play any of my guitars like this acoustically, - but it's an easy repair if you want it). TO THE NEXT BUYER, THIS IS ACTUALLY "A BLESSING IN DISGUISE" & THE CURRENT PRICE HAS BEEN REDUCED BY A FEW HUNDRED BUCKS BEC OF THIS SLIGHT OPTIONAL SMALL REPAIR.The Ovangkol is the best and especially MOST BEAUTIFUL of Taylor's instrument woods and this one has perfect grain structure and gold color and does not have any of the irregularities or blemishes as is often found on this wood. This is a really good one! That's why I originally bought it for myself, & I am very much a perfectionist and a very good "guitar-picker-outer". (objectively speaking, not bragging).I've also upgraded this guitar with an excellent John Pearce solid ebony armrest, (as I usually do on many of my guitars. - why not, - it feels better than the edge of the guitar on my arm & it looks cool.The bridge pins have also been upgraded with solid brass (chrome) pins. This enhances the tone and sustain & also looks cool. (I always do this on many of my bridge pin guitars).Also included is the mini Planet Waves tuner on the headstock and the pickholder on the back of the headstock (my own Jade stone pick seen in Photo not included)The hard shell/ plush arched case is Taylor's top of the line and is in mint condition.This is much better than the newer versions of this same model from Taylor.Enjoy Ozzy
