This flute is worth paying attention to - quite a nice playing instrument with a big sound!!!This is a high-quality 8-key flute from George Cloos who built instruments in New York beginning in 1862. He was originally from Germany and most of his flutes are in a German style. This flute is serial number 6532. Is has a particularly fine head joint with an excellent embouchure - somewhat in the Viennese style - which produces and very big and well focused sound. The flute is labeled H.P. (high-pitch) but this is not HP in the English sense where it could be quite high, it is simply to differentiate it from a L.P. (low pitch) instrument at 435. This flute plays very comfortably at A=440 even slightly pulled out. The flute is made of high-quality Ebony and is, of course, over 100 years old.The head joint has several old and relatively minor repairs - far from the embouchure. It seems to have new tenon corks, pads, and felt bumpers. All working well. This flute is ready to play and will work equally well for Classical or Folk/Irish playing.
