Up for sale, a 1967 Gibson Dove in excellent, 100% original condition. This Dove sports the features commonly associated with this top-tier Gibson square shoulder dreadnought model, including the Tune-o-Matic ABR-1 bridge and one-piece mahogany neck, and '67 was near the tail end of the original Kalamazoo run for both of these features integral to the Dove's tone and collectability. There's plenty of low end power and articulate top end attack to be had with the Dove, and the classic combination of a solid spruce top and figured maple back and sides gives the guitar great clarity and a crisp, dynamic tone. Whether you're fingerpicking delicate passages or strumming with authority, the Dove is an ideal tool, perfect for use on stage or in the studio. Professionally setup and strung with 12-53 phosphor bronze strings, this Dove has been dialed in to perfection here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar.The one-piece mahogany neck has a slender C shaped profile at the nut that grows notably in depth and roundness as you move up the fretboard, filling out to almost "baseball bat" girth by the time you reach the 9th fret. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard sports split parallelogram pearloid inlays, and the guitar retains its original fretwire. These frets are of the wide/flat variety favored by Gibson in the '60s, with surprisingly well rounded crowns. There is faint, uniform wear on frets 1-3, with virtually no wear to speak up further up the fretboard. Consistent with all post-1964 Gibson guitars in the pre-Norlin era, this Dove has a nut width of 1 9/16". The neck binding is clean and original, having yellowed with age, but fully intact and in great shape. On the headstock, the original pat. pending Grover Rotomatic tuning machines are intact, turning very smoothly and holding pitch well. The original "Dove" truss rod cover is also present. The action is quite comfortable and well within factory spec for a proper setup as the neck has been professionally reset to meet the body at the ideal angle. The action currently sits at 1/8" at the 12th fret on the bass side, and 3/32" on the treble side at the same fret with modest room for further adjustment given the saddle design. The guitar plays very well with no buzzing or dead spots, and the Tune-o-Matic bridge has been dialed in for optimal intonation. The solid spruce top is in great shape, and the original nitro lacquer has aged to a medium amber color, darkening the natural tint of the wood slightly. The signature Dove pickguard is very clean and intact, with six tiny factory screws holding it in place as per original spec for '67. The tortoise backing contrasts nicely with the green and red flowers and branches on the guard, and the pearloid Dove looks great too. There is virtually no wear on the graphics, which can be a real rarity, given the purpose of the pickguard and the fact that it's designed to be directly in the pick path. The carved rosewood bridge base lies flat on the top, with no lifting edges, and only very light natural deflection of the top behind the bridge. All braces are intact and in good shape, and the adjustable bridge is original with the Gibson patent number on the underside. Inside the soundhole, the original orange Gibson label is intact too.The entire body shows moderate lacquer checking and there is one small and short crack running parallel to the treble side of the the fretboard extension over the top which has been professionally glued and is structurally sound, but otherwise the guitar is crack-free and a great example of this classic Gibson model. The back and sides have some gorgeous figuring in the maple and the photos simply don't do it justice, with deep curls and prominent grain across the entire back in particular. Other cosmetic wear includes light scuffs and dings, mostly on the back of the instrument, and a couple spots of wear into the spruce top south of the pickguard. There is also some wear along the headstock edges and around the tuner posts and some missing finish adjacent to the neck heel from when it was reset. This Dove is a lovely example with the rich sound of a guitar that's been lovingly played and has had a chance to open up tonally over the decades.A vintage non-original hardshell case is included.
