For sale is a rare Greco 'EG500' Custom Les Paul electric guitar, finished in 3-tone sunburst. It was expertly and beautifully made in Japan, presumably in the late 70s / early 80s, during what's become known in accurately as the 'Lawsuit Era'. It comes with it's original hard case.Features include Greco branded sealed Gotoh machine heads, 'open book' headstock shape, block fretboard inlays and period-correct 'pancake' body construction. From the (fairly light)weight (just over 3.4kg or 7lb 8oz), I suspect there is chambering too, and the guitar is nicely resonant and fairly 'acoustically loud' for a solid-body as a result.Sadly, the original pots were a little tired and two of them weren't functioning at all well, so it has had a full professional harness upgrade to CTS USA pots, orange drop caps and Switchcraft USA toggle switch and jack socket. Black speed knobs complete the overall custom look, although the gold ones that were on the guitar originally are also included, along with the original harness. The upgraded harness makes a vast improvement to the feel (and arguably the sound) of the guitar, and gets the most out of the excellent original pickups. The guitar is in very good used condition for it's age. There are the usual light marks, scratches and dings here and there, consistent with it's age and use. There's a small area of discolouration by the binding on the headstock and some 'unfortunate' colouring to one area of the grain of the wood used in the neck. There isn't much play wear, and the guitar has just been serviced and set-up with a light fret dress, so there's no rutting etc to worry about. There's also a quality replacement bone nut. The hard case is in good vintage condition, again with some age/use related wear and tear, with some loose areas of the original gold plush inner lining.
