Gretsch Viking (1964?) Customized by Mike Dillon With less flash than a Falcon and more features than a Country Club, the Viking was all set to plunder and pillage the mid-60’s marketplace. It didn’t exactly work out that way, but the Viking was still a pretty nice guitar, especially for fans of Gretsch gadgetry. The Viking was second only to the White Falcon in the 1964 Gretsch lineup. Fittings and finish on the 17-inch guitars were the best Gretsch could offer, and it came complete with a full complement of the unusual Gretsch offerings of the day, such as the “Floating Sound” unit and “T-zone tempered treble” upper frets. Although Vikings were offered in a variety of finishes, the original finish on this 1970 Viking will remain forever a mystery as it has been refinished in 2001 with a fantastic Black Sparkle finish. This was not the only alteration however, all of it's bindings have been replaced with rosewood bindings, the neck has been reset, the fretboard has been replaced (the inlays were transfered from the original) and it had a refret (without a 0-fret this time). All these modifications make this a unique one-off instrument which plays extremely well and also sounds fantastic. All the hardware remains original, the Floating Sound Unit has been removed but does come with the guitar. Condition is excellent with some dings and playwear in the finish. Includes original hardshell case.Model Features:Body Shape Set Neck Double Cut Hollowbody Body Laminated Maple Top Laminated Maple Finish Black Sparkle Neck Maple Neck Shape C Fretboard Ebony Fretboard Radius 12" Bridge Gretsch Space Control Tailpiece Bigsby Scale Length 650mm (25 9/16") Nutwidth 45mm (1 3/4") Weight 3,8kg Tuners Grover Pickups Supertron Travels in Original Hardshell case Remarks Used guitar with 1 year guarantee
