Description
Brand: Gretsch

One of a kind snare drum originally customized by Al Duffy (inventor of the chain pedal) at Professional Percussion Center in NYC in 1971, and refurbed by me. This was what Elvin, Tony, Billy, and Jo Jones actually played. Gretsch snare, metal like this one or wood, with the throwoff replaced by a Slingerland Rapid, the Gretsch adjustable butt kept, and Radio King brackets and extended snares installed. The objective back then was keeping a drum working at its optimal level, not keeping it original. After going through 2 or 3 Gretsch butts, there is now a Yamaha, and the throw is a hybrid of a Ludwig P85 and a Slingerland Rapid. The extended snares are now Puresound. The shell is in amazing shape for a 50+ year old drum. I think the absence of the etched center line dates this to 1963. There are holes from the previous rigs. It's sort of a piece of history, but the point of it all is what it sounds like, and NOTHING you can buy now sounds like this.
