Epiphone Zephyr Emperor Vari-Tone 1951 This 1951 Epiphone Zephyr Emperor Vari-Tone is a great example of the innovations Epiphone made in the electric guitar market. The denotations “Zephyr” and “Regent” are Epiphone lingo for an electric model with a cutaway, respectively. This instrument features three original New York pickups which can be combined into every possible combination (except for all three together) with the 6-button switching system. Features the original Bakelite pickup mounts, carousel control knobs, Frequensator tailpiece, compensated rosewood bridge and Epiphone Epsilon tuners. A great large-bodied hollowbody with a spruce top, laminated maple body, 7-ply body binding, bound rosewood fretboard with pearl/abalone block/triangle inlays and branch inlay on the headstock. One can see why the Emperor was Epiphone’s top model before the company merged with Gibson in 1957. Condition of this instrument is excellent with some expected signs of use, the bindings has come loose of the body in several placed due to shrinkage. Includes original hardshell case.
