*PRICE DROPPED $500!!*You don't see one of these here in Australia very often...Genuine Zildjian / N&C Cast Bronze Limited Edition 14" x 4¾" Snare Drum. One of three made available in Australia in 2003.For those looking at this that don't know, here is the scoop. Commissioned by Zildjian in 2003 to commemorate their 380th Anniversary, designed by the guru Bob Gatzen and made by Noble & Cooley in the USA, it is a limited edition drum with a worldwide production of 500. The shell is made from the legendary Zildjian cymbal bronze alloy, sand cast and machined into it's final spec of about 3mm and then outfitted with black chrome plated brass hardware, there is nothing about this drum that is not breathtaking...the look, the sound, the weight...the price...These drums are typical in many ways of other cast bronze snares like the revered Tama Bell Brass and Sonor HLD590. They are ear bleeding loud, stop a charging bull loud, put a head on a beer across the bar loud. You get the picture. They are also extremely sensitive...orchestral snare sensitive, but best not take one there. But it's the little things that set these specific models apart from the pack...the all be it decidedly 'small' pack of cast bronze beauties. The patented N&C 'Nodal Point' mounting of the 8 single post brass tube lugs, staggered alternately top and bottom so as to spread tension forces. The 'Groove Tone' machining of the outside shell, reminiscent of Zildjian's cymbal lathing. The unique 4¾" depth, exploiting the aforementioned sensitivity. And so on...that Gatzen dude knows his stuff...Onto the particulars of this very drum. Serial number 03-090 (2003, 90/500). Short of finding an unused drum, this is as close as you are going to go in finding a minter. Easily 9½ / 10. It has the original box, Certificate of Authenticity (a bit ratty on the left edge, was like that when I got it, zoom up the pic for a look), the unused original and custom logo Evans heads, although the coating on the batter had gone a bit 'tacky' and it's a fairly scratched up (again, use the zoom). I purchased it new from Drumworx in Brisbane (later Billy Hydes), and I believe it was only one of three sent to Australia. The drum came shipped with triple flanged hoops, but she has genuine matching N&C die cast hoops that I fitted a year or so after buying the drum. They cost me about $300 for the pair by the time they had arrived from the US, as there wasn't (and still isn't?) a Noble & Cooley distriubtor here. The TF hoops are also included in this sale, but they seem to have rubbed against the case and some of the plating has rubbed off...not scratched though. Interestingly, the original press release about this drum stated that they would all come with die casts, which was obviously later changed. I'm told that distributors had the opportunity to order the drum with DC's as an option, but I've never seen another one of these with them. Now when this drum was first put on display at Drumworx it carried a price of $4999. Ouch. But that is here in the 'Lucky Country'...over in the US they were closer to 2K. Although they they have not aged enough to truly be a collectors centre piece, they are still very highly sought after, as limited editions always are, and primo examples like this get their US$2K when they turn up in the good ol' USA. But if you were able to get in the hunt for one of those gems, you still have to convince the seller to ship international, you still going to get nailed by the exchange rate, you still have to ship it (and it's properly heavy), insure it for the trip (as you would be crazy not to...), pay GST and Import duties...when all is said and done you are easily going to be out AU$2500. And that is for a drum with triple flanged hoops! Or you can snaffle this one for $2500 and get one with the die casts that the drum begs for and still have the option of TF's. Suffice to say I am dropping a fair bit of cash on this sale by selling it at 2K after buying it domestically before learning the ways of eBay, but I can't realistically expect someone to pay more for the privilege of buying from an Australian.Free Australia wide shipping with insurance for payment price (Extra Cover in Australia post lingo) included. The drum will ship double boxed (original inside another larger) so as to try to mitigate handling carelessness by AusPost. Payments must be cleared before shipping will happen. For Paypal transactions, I will only ship to the verified address that Paypal instructs me...not negotiable. If you have not verified your address, please do so before making payment.
