Up for sale, a 1990's Epiphone Riviera in excellent condition, upgraded with Lindy Fralin boutique USA-made mini humbuckers. Crafted in Korea's Peerless factory, this Riviera is a faithful reissue of the vintage model with semi-hollowbody maple construction and numerous upgrades including the vintage-spec pickups, hand carved bone nut, custom pickguard with ES-295 graphics, and a set of gold reflector cap knobs. These Lindy Fralin pickups deliver a sweetness and chime that works well with the semi-hollowbody construction, perfectly balancing warmth and top end clarity. The bridge pickup has a touch of growl and great string to string balance, while the neck position delivers a girth and roundness that's great for lead work. At 7lbs 12oz, the guitar balances well on a strap and has an acoustic voice with plenty of presence, translating well through the upgraded pickups. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Riviera is strung with fresh 11-50 strings and dialed in for optimal action. The mahogany neck has a medium C shaped profile that borders on the more slender side of things, although the generous shoulders on the profile give it a substantial feel. The bound rosewood fretboard features small parallelogram inlays as well as stock medium jumbo fretwire which has plenty of height and roundness to the crowns. There is light, uniform wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-4, and fainter flattening of the crowns until roughly fret 9, also beneath only the plain strings. Measuring 1 11/16" in width, the hand carved and polished bone nut is a significant upgrade that improves both the clarity of the tone as well as the sustain. The heastock features Kluson-style tuning machines and the guitar is currently fitted with a black Epiphone truss rod cover, although a slightly longer creme cover (and matching pickguard) are also included separately. The back of the headstock has a small "2nd" stamp denoting a factory second, and this mark is typically seen when a guitar is sold with a small finish defect or something similar, although we can't find anything to note as far as what that mark might be. The serial number on the orange label inside the guitar has also been replaced due to the 2nd designation. On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, with individual Volume and Tone controls for each of the Lindy Fralin mini humbuckers. These pickups required a very slight routing on the edges of the pickup cavities to be a perfect fit and this work is cleanly hidden by the pickup rings. The original chrome Tune-o-Matic bridge and Frequensator tailpiece are intact, while the knobs are gold reflector cap upgrades which match the ES-295 style cream pickguard with gold vine accents. Cosmetically, the guitar is in great shape, with some faint finish scratches on the back as well as a few assorted tiny nicks. There is also a tiny nick on the treble side of the neck profile behind fret 3 which doesn't affect playability or structural integrity in the slightest. This model has long been discontinued, and this Riviera adheres to vintage spec with a host of quality upgrades! The original Epiphone hardshell case is included.
