You are looking at a 1989 Taylor 910 acoustic guitar, serial #7972 built in the old Santee, California factory back when Taylor was a much smaller company...before the CNC machines and the move to the huge El Cajon plant they use today. The 900 series of guitars has always been built of Taylor’s hand-selected, cream-of-the-crop tone woods, and shows their highest attention to detail. This guitar sounded absolutely amazing when new... AND, as anyone who knows anything about guitars (especially acoustics), knows that the ONLY way to develop the sound of a guitar is to PLAY them! The sound of a fine, solid-top acoustic takes years to develop and “open up”...and THIS guitar has done that BEAUTIFULLY!   You will NOT find a more BALANCED-sounding dreadnaught guitar - this guitar has all the POWER and VOLUME of a MARTIN D-28, but with the BALANCE of a smaller-body guitar. Don’t get me wrong, the D-28 is a great guitar, especially for bluegrass because it has the “booming” bass plus great high-end “cut”...but this Taylor 910 is simply more balanced, and better suited to a wider range of music.   Yes, it’s still GREAT for BLUEGRASS and flat-picking, but it’s also just a at home with finger-picking PIEDMONT BLUES (which is what I play) as it is with FOLKY strumming and amplified ROCK accompaniment. The bass is tighter and more focused, and the mid-tones more substantial. Micing a D-28 in the studio can be tough, but you will be amazed at how easily you can record a stellar, 3-D acoustic sound from this Taylor! It records like a dream...   FEATURES: Less ‘flowery’ than Taylor's current 910, this is simply an amazing guitar! The once nearly white ENGLEMAN SPRUCE top has aged to a beautiful BUTTERSCOTCH color, and you sure won’t find THAT on a new guitar (...some makers use ‘vintage toner’ to approximate this rich, aged color...)    The top has beautiful cross-silking and some shimmering bear-claw figure near the top that really catches the light...   Also, unlike the current guitars, this has the classic, old-school NITRO-CELLULOSE LACQUER, not the current water-base finish that Taylor uses today...   You will not find a more beautiful, deeply hued INDIAN ROSEWOOD back and sides...   And also, unlike the current 910, all the binding is made of MAHOGANY – there is no plastic here! Even the fine 1/32” red trim stripe is DYED WOOD...   Easy playing, solid AFRICAN MAHOGANY neck with a 1 11/16” nut width...    EBONY fingerboard with beautiful torch and scroll-style Mother-of-Pearl and Abalone inlays and Nickel-Silver frets...   ...and, of course, the famous Taylor low action...you will NOT BELIEVE you are playing an acoustic with MEDIUM GAUGE strings...it plays as easily as an electric!   Inlaid ABALONE Rosette...   The bridge pins have been upgraded to MAMMOTH IVORYwith abalone dots (the original ebony/abalone pins ARE included)...   Gold-plated Schaller M-6 tuners with solid EBONY knobs...   This IS NOT a ‘mint-in-case’ guitar that you see so often on eBay – bought with good intentions and then neglected - this guitar has been PLAYED - and played almost DAILY for FIFTEEN years... It has seen club dates, recording sessions, stage productions, porch jams, open mic’s, sing-a-longs, – you name it...it’s BEEN THERE! However, while well-played, it has also been very well-cared for...kept in its case when not in use, humidified with a sound-hole humidifier for the first 5 years of its life. Of course, a guitar of its age and use has gained some character marks over the years! I use both finger-picks and flat-picks and like to play loud, so there’s a some finish wear near the sound-hole...   There are a few top dings and scuffs (see previous photos) and two hair-line finish cracks on the top (like any older lacquer guitar gets...), but NO WOOD CRACKS or SPLITS at all...   There is a hole from a strap knob screw in the heel of the neck...   Of course, there’s some fret-wear on the ORIGINAL frets, but NO BUZZES yet! It’ll need a crowning in a few years (hasn’t had one yet), but won’t need a re-fret for a good long while... Even the top-quality case (included) was the made by Taylor themselves...1989 was the first year they started doing that! This is a great, 5-ply poplar plywood case, (though the vinyl-leatherette covering was altered by a young Labrador Retriever puppy during its teething stage...but I say, better the case than the guitar!  So why, you ask, am I selling this amazing instrument? Well, over the 15 years I have played a LOT of guitars and have never found a guitar I liked better than this Taylor...until now! Unfortunately, the guitar I fell for is extremely expensive...more than TWICE what this Taylor will cost you. I simply cannot afford to keep both. I thought I would never sell my 910, but...well, here it is.   REMEMBER - if you’re looking for a “mint-condition” guitar to collect, and maybe take out to look at and polish once in a while, PLEASE look elsewhere. BUT- if you want a TOP QUALITY GUITAR with a stellar, FULLY OPENED TONE that sounds great NOW, for a GREAT PRICE, then THIS IS IT.
