Rare and collectible MIJ '62 RI Strat - made in 1986. Comes with Fender hard case. I run axerelics as a hobby - restoring old guitars, mainly Fenders - but this is one of my own guitars.
She's an 'E' serial from the golden age of Fender production - mid 1980s in Japan.
A real struggle to sell her but I've got to thin out my collection a bit.
I purchased her second-hand about 10 years ago. I made the following changes:
- I replaced her red body with a 1990/91 Surf Green body made by Fender Japan at the Fuj-igen factory (from a 'K' serial Strat)
- I replaced the corroded saddles with nickel Fender ones.
Also, replaced some of the aged vol/tone dials. She's in lovely playing condition.
But she's a natural relic. Quite a few dinks to her body. But no problems at all with her.
AWESOME SOUND
She’s got the Fender classic, vintage sound with Alnico pickups.
So your sound is masterful at the neck, solid in the middle and edgy at the bridge. Pickups, pots, switch, etc, all original.
NECK AND TUNERS
Classic Fender headstock and vintage nickel tuners. She’s set up with 10-46 strings for a comfortable lowish action.
Like vintage re-issue models, the truss access is at the heel.
Here's here serial number - and the little '86 they scribbled on at the factory. See below.   The neck is tinted with style and age. Some fret wear but no deep grooves in the metal. C profile. SURF GREEN BODY
I'm a huge fan of surf green. Lovely retro vibe - that's why I wanted it for a '62 Strat.
Swapped in from a 90/91 Fender Japan body from a Squier Strat - a K serial model which had full-spec Fender Japan bodies
(45mm, basswood) not the later MIJ Squiers with L,M,N,O serials that mostly had thinner MDF-style models. A word about colour. Fender shades vary slightly. This Surf Green very close to Sonic Blue but it's Surf Green! As with 90% of Japanese Fenders, the body seems to be basswood. She's in 'light relic' condition...
.... she's got lots of nicks, chips, bumps, scratches and other cosmetic blemishes. Well used.
OTHER COOL FEATURES
- Aged (cream) pickup covers and dials.
- 'Fender' stamped neck plate - a feature of these mid-1980s models.
- Nickel Fender stamped saddles.
FENDER HARD CASE
Fender USA hard case. The case has no key but the hinges/latches are good.
It was for a left-handed Strat previously but also fits right-handed models perfectly.
The case has some scrapes to the finish where some writing was removed (a band’s name)
but this has been covered over by the USA Tour sticker.
