Welcome to Yung Flutes Shakuhachi, Perry Yung trained in Japan under Kinya Sogawa in the Chikusing Tamai lineage for JIARI shakuhachi making and Dokyoku music for Jinashi and Hochiku.
"Many thanks Perry for helping me on my shakuhachi journey. Many people may have great knowledge of this and that, but lack the ability to teach and inspire others of that knowledge, but you my friend can do. A thousand thank yous!" Peace. - David Brine, The Bahamas.
This flute is not the one on auction, I'll have the actual video up tomorrow. Thanks for looking, Perry
Here is a great 2.3 length wide-bore, Hotchiku all-natural, rootend bass shakuhachi pitched around A (A = 440hz). Hotchiku translates as Darma bamboo and was coined by the famous Komuso monk Watazumi who sought to bring the shakuhachi back to it's essence by playing all natural flutes. This one was made from properly aged JAPANESE Madake bamboo harvested around 30 years ago. I purchased the bamboo in Japan around 2003 and it was already about 20 years old then. I only recently finished this flute. It played very nicely with no need for work in the bore. Just a thin layer of Japanese urushi lacquer to seal the bore and protect against breath moisture damage. It is a wide bore instrument. The voice is vibrant and lively. It can be played softly with a sweet tone or pushed to an electric scream in the hands of a a more aggressive player. The player should have medium to large hands. Please know that the standard length 1.8 is the traditional sized for serious study. See my store for those flutes. I have served the international shakuhachi community by providing all aspects of professional shakuhachi work for nearly18 years (flutes, repairs, workshops etc...) and am proud to say I offer The Best Guarantee in the world.
