Veillette Journeyman 2.0 Prototype Acoustic-Electric Guitar
Serial #870
Handmade November 2012
Signed and numbered by Joe Veillette, Woodstock, New York
Displayed at Veillette's NAMM Show booth, January 2013, Los Angeles
Joe Veillette designed this as a nylon acoustic-electric.  He lent out this prototype to a famous Woodstock resident musician to take into the studio to do some recording work.  The singer/songwriter strung it with steel instead of nylon, and it sounds phenomenal!  Presently, it’s strung with Elixir Nanoweb Extra-Lights.  I bought it from Joe this way. The adjustable truss rod and tilt-adjuster (that uses a simple hex-wrench to dial in the action) allow this guitar to be strung either with nylon or steel strings.  I’ve had both steel and nylon strings on the guitar, and both sound great due to the active K&K/D-Tar pickup/preamp setup. Here are the spec’s: ·         Heavily chambered Mahogany body ·         AAA Flame Maple top, with black binding and tobacco sunburst finish ·         Pau Ferro (Morado) fretboard and bridge ·         Mahogany neck with tilt adjuster to dial in action ·         Black Gotoh tuning machines with 'tortoise shell' buttons ·         25.5" scale length (647.7 mm) ·         1 7/8" neck width at nut (1.875") ·         20" radiused fingerboard ·         22 frets ·         Titanium truss rod (adjustable) ·         5.2 lbs. ·         Custom K&K pickup ·         D-Tar (Seymour Duncan-Rick Turner Acoustic Research) Wave-Length onboard preamp (2 9-volt batteries) ·         Volume and Tone controls ·         Plush Levy’s gig bag ·         Condition is mint, like new ·         Retail price is $4,385 Sample videos of this guitar as a nylon-string are and . The first production example, serial number #888, made in March of 2013, . (The only other comparable nylon-electric guitar on the market, by the way, is made by Roger Sadowsky, and .) My hearing is shot (as I’m now closer to 60 years old than I am to 50), and I need to be able to hear the instrument acoustically rather than emanating from an amplifier elsewhere in the room.  That’s the only reason I’m selling it.  It’s a fabulous guitar, that makes the Godin brand look and sound like toys!
Joe Veillette was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1946, graduated from architecture school (City College, New York), worked as architect in Manhattan, and then studied classical guitar construction with Michael Gurian in 1971. In 1975 he founded Veillette-Citron Guitars, which built custom, handmade instruments influenced by Alembic.  In 1979 they moved to Kingston, NY, on the Hudson River near Woodstock.  Tapping into the Woodstock music community, in conjunction with John Sebastian they developed the "Shark" electric baritone guitar.  They disbanded in 1983, having built approximately 500 instruments (275 basses and 225 guitars).Joe then collaborated on guitar building ventures with fellow custom luthiers Stuart Spector and Michael Tobias before launching Veillette Guitars in Woodstock in 1995.  Martin Keith, son of the famous banjo player Bill Keith, joined the business in 2000.
