This Roland TR-909 has been a key part of my professional recording studio since I purchased it new in 1989.  It's been well maintained and here is a link to a video of it in operation, being programmed and played, taken on 12/23/2016: There is typical minor cosmetic wear, as you would expect for a working instrument of this age.  All functions work properly and I have just replaced the internal batteries and am including a brand new power cable (seen in the photos). All volume and pitch pots work properly but some may show a bit of noise while adjusting because I have used the same settings for decades without modification. Simply turning the pots should quickly clean them. One of the innovative things about this drum machine is that the Kick, Snare, Hi, Mid and Low Toms, Rim Shot and Hand Claps are generated by analog circuitry, but the Hi Hats and Cymbals are actual samples. The Roland TR-909 Rhythm Composer is a partially , partially , introduced by the Japanese in 1984.  It features a 16-step and a that aimed for realism and adjustability. It is fully programmable, and like its predecessor, the , it can store entire songs with multiple sections, as opposed to simply storing patterns. It was the first -equipped drum machine. The drum kit contains the following sounds: All drums except for the and are synthetically generated; there is an circuit with a dedicated filter and envelope curve. The hi-hats and cymbals are 6-bit samples, compressed and combined with a volume envelope curve (and tuning) to allow slight modification. Thanks to the , various aspects of the drum sound can be modified (, attack, decay). There is also a feature called "accent"—a primitive means of humanizing the drumbeat. In a simplified model of a drummer and a kit, the loudness of the sound created would basically depend on the velocity at which the drummer hits a given part of the kit. A human drummer can emphasize certain notes by playing them louder, and the accent parameter provides a means to boost a particular step. Part of the charm of the TR-909 comes from its 16-step — the 16 buttons along the bottom of the interface correspond to the 16th notes of a single bar in 4/4 meter. For example, punching the buttons 1, 5, 9 and 13 on the part would create a simple "" beat. Multiple patterns can be grouped or chained together which allows the user to create drum patterns that are longer than one bar in length or, alternatively, create drum patterns in compound meters outside of 3/4 or 4/4.This is the famous drum machine used by Phil Collins in "Sussudio", as well as Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Prodigy, Moby, Gorillaz, Radiohead, Skinny Puppy, Kanye West, and more, and more...

RETURN POLICY

I will accept returns and refunds within the 14 day Ebay return policy only if the product received is not as described or not functioning.  There is a learning curve to programming and using this drum machine.  Operations manuals for the TR-909 are readily available to download for free.  Study them to see the advanced capabilities of this drum machine and to see the procedures for programming and creating multi-measure patterns and tracks.  I won't accept returns simply because it's more difficult than you thought it would be. I'll be happy to correspond about any questions you may have prior to bidding.  Thanks!
