The first series of steel strung guitars by Yamaki are amongst the finest they made, starting from the 110 model up to the 185, the last two digits indicating the release price at the time, this 140 model being 40,000 Yen respectively. Yamaki guitars are still highly respected in their native Japan, and in Canada where they enjoyed a larger distribution of export during the 70s. A few models, sometimes known by the Daion brand, were also available in the USA, and parts of Europe, but not to any great extent. As such, this 140 model is quite rare and is a fine example of this great brand.
Based heavily on the famous Martin guitars of the time, this 140 model lines up quite well to a D41. The soundboard is particularly fine solid spruce, with a very tight grain, and quite thin lending a great deal of resonance. The soundhole rosette is a simple tri-ring design, with plain black pickguard, and an ebony bridge. Triple cream binding joins the top  with intricate mosaic purfling along the centre seam. Onto the body is a 3-piece mahogany neck, with cream heal cap and double cream bound  fretboard, with abalone hexagonal position
inlays. Upto the headstalk sees a traditional squared design, faced with wood veneer with cream binding, and a vertical logo of Yamaki inlaid in abalone. Tuners are high quality Yamaki-branded Gotoh tuners that are excellent. Internally the body is clean, with beautiful handshaped bracing and tidy kurfling with minimal glue residue, and quite unique to Yamaki, an angled neck block joint/brace. As is normal with Yamaki, the model number is branded "Enchanting Harmony by Yamaki, Since 1954, 140" on a seam strip visible through the soundhole. Neck width is 1 11/16", action at the 12th fret 6th string is 2,9mm with good string break at the saddle, and a straight and true neck. The truss rod is working and is accessed via the soundhole.
Tonally this is exceptional. Martin-eque tones are not in the realms of outlandish hyperbole here. A deep, rich, balanced, and lasting tone; mature and soulful would be a fair expectation. It sounds marvellous strumming those early Neil Young and Stephen Stills songs.
As the photos show, this is in a wonderful condition, and has aged gracefully.

The Yamaki has a good neck and good frets. the playability and Sound are superb...  The guitar is made of wonderful woods. Please kontakt me to verify overseas shipping costs. This guitar is singing!
