Up for sale, a 1968 Gibson B-25N in exceptional condition, with low action and classic Gibson tone. A very clean and original example of this classic Gibson model, this B-25N has a glassy, original gloss nitro lacquer finish, and the lightly silkscreened "Gibson" logo on the pickguard is near flawless. The successor of the LG-3 (and by association the same size but lesser priced LG-2), the B-25N features a slope shoulder 14 1/4" body with X braced construction. Short of purchasing a J-45 and heading into upscale dreadnought territory, the B-25N was the highest grade Gibson money could buy in '68, and the solid spruce top, mahogany back and sides and one-piece mahogany neck add up to a guitar that is very resonant, soulful, and easy to play. The tone is wooly and smooth, with focused bass response and plenty of top end cut. Two important upgrades have also been made to this particular B-25N to elevate it to LG-3 specs, and these include installing a bone saddle and having the original rosewood bridge glued to the top (as opposed to the bolt-on factory configuration). Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this B-25N is strung with fresh 12-53 phosphor bronze strings and sounds great! The neck has a comfortable medium C profile with round shoulders and significantly more depth and roundness as you move yup the neck. The rosewood fretboard sports pearl dot inlays and the original frets are in fantastic shape. As you'd expect, the frets are of the fairly wide/flat variety Gibson favored, and the frets show only light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3, with virtually no wear up the neck, well rounded crowns and plenty of height. The original nut is present as well and measures 1 9/16" in width. On the headstock, the silkscreen "Gibson" logo is very clean and the original double line Kluson Deluxe tuning machines are intact with their original white buttons that still turn smoothly. On the body, all of the original appointments are present, including the large tortoise pickguard and rosewood bridge with adjustable saddle. Very important to the tone of this particular B-25N, a bone saddle has been installed within the adjustable piece of rosewood, adding notable top end articulation, clarity, and fullness to the tone. The bridge sits flush with the top and the solid, X braced spruce top sits quite flat with only normal, light deflection behind the bridge. The action is low and comfortable all the way up the neck, and the saddle has room for future adjustment if desired. Originally bolted on from the factory, the bridge has now been glued to the top as per LG-3 specifications for a more resonant and deep sound. Visible through the soundhole, the B-25N factory stamp is clean and unfaded on the back center seam. This B-25N is clean and well kept cosmetically, with the original nitro lacquer finish and zero touchup or overspray. The top and sides of the guitar are crack-free, while the back has only two very slender and professionally repaired cracks along the treble side lower bout edge as seen in the included close-up photo. There is also light lacquer checking on the body and a few assorted small nicks and finish scratches, but overall this is a very clean, well cared for, and upgraded B-25N that delivers a notably clear, rich tone.A vintage chipboard case is included.
