Up for sale, a Fender Electric XII custom built 12 string guitar in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Finished in Dakota Red nitro lacquer and boasting a genuine vintage '60s Fender Shenandoah 12 string neck, this guitar has the feel, easy playability, and unmistakable tone of Fender's premier 12 string guitar. Rounded out with Seymour Duncan pickups and 12 saddle bridge made exclusively for Fender's Vista Series Venus model, this recreation was simply done right in every regard, with no expense spared to capture every aspect of the Electric XII design. The four-way rotary pickup selector switch allows for series and parallel operation of the Z coil pickups, and sinewy, twangy sounds are easy to find right alongside more rich and punchy 12 string tones. All the while the sound chimes and choruses with the best, and it's worth noting that the Electric XII is one of the most recorded 12 string models of all time, being a favorite of Pete Townshend (especially on the Who's Tommy), the guitar used by Jimmy Page on Stairway to Heaven, and an instrument used on countless '60s pop hits backed by the Wrecking Crew. This guitar weighs in at 8lbs 4oz and balances well on a strap. We've had this Fender Electric XII professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh strings, ideal action, and solid intonation. The genuine Fender vintage maple neck has a comfortable medium C shaped profile with gently sloping shoulders and a full 25 1/2" scale length. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard has aged cream binding and pearl block inlays, as well as retaining the original slender fretwire and 7 1/4" radius. These frets show virtually no wear, having been leveled and crowned with plenty of height and life left. On the headstock, the guitar retains the original Fender "F" chrome tuning machines all of which still hold pitch as they should. The headstock matches the body with a deep shade of Dakota Red and a modern reproduction "Fender Electric XII" waterslide decal with the correct transitional logo and patent numbers for a mid '60s instrument. All of the electronics work as they should, with the Seymour Duncan pickups wired to a modern four-way rotary switch and full size CTS pots. These pickups are the only true "reissues" of the originals made by Fender and feature black bobbins and alnico magnet slugs. The body and pickguard are of unknown origin, but match the contours of the original parts well, and the alder body is purposefully routed for an Electric XII.Cosmetically, this is a stunningly cool and very well cared for instrument, with a Dakota Red nitro lacquer finish and matching headstock, as well as clear nitro lacquer overspray on the neck profile. There is moderate checking in the lacquer across the body as well as wear in the pick path and a few assorted small nicks on the body as a whole, but no serious or structural wear of any kind. This is a unique chance to have a custom color Fender XII made from a genuine '60s Fender neck and an assortment of purposefully made, high quality Fender XII components at half the price of a vintage example!
