1929 Epiphone Recording Model A Flattop At the height of the banjo boom in 1928, Epiphone introduced the Recording series of guitars, each one identified only by a letters 'A' through 'E' and unique due to their unusual body shape. The Recording guitars series each had a combination of spruce and laminated maple, with either an arched or flat top, depending on the price. The Recording guitars were not a success probably because of the lack of celebrity endorsement. This also means guitars like these are not often found and have become increasingly more collectable.Soundwise these guitars sound really unique, not big in volume but big in character with a very smooth, sweet and balanced sound, ideal for fingerstyle playing or light strumming. It reminds of Gibson guitars of the 1930s. This Model A with Venetian body style made in 1929 features a graduated flat spruce top and 3-ply figured maple back and sides, set 2-piece maple neck with V profile, rosewood fretboard with dot inlay and double dots on the 7th fret, rounded headstock with pearloid overlay, hand etched & painted banner logo engraving, 2-ply black body binding, the original Banjo-Style tuners have been replaced by open geared tuners, and a rosewood bridge, also the top seems oversprayed in the pickguard area. The guitar looks great for it's age,and sounds truly amazing, reminds of a vintage Gibson guitar... . with expected playwear and the usual hole on the back of the headstock (meant to hang the guitar to the wall using a leather strap fitting through the hole) which has been filled. The guitar comes with a possibly original soft shell case.Model Features:
