Up for sale, a 1966 Vox Continental, model V301J in excellent condition and in good working order, complete with vintage chrome Z legs and case. Among all of the iterations of the Continental to exist in the 1960s, this early British JMI made version is the true original and the combo organ that comes closest to emulating the beloved B3, while retaining the unique tonal character that launched a million combo organs in its wake. Fully serviced, this Continental has been dialed in and sounds incredible! The tone generators utilize germanium transistors, giving it a warmth and harmonic richness not found on any later iteration of this organ (by late '66 the USA and Italian Continentals all used silicone trannies). The overall feel and action of the wooden keys is superb, with a light, springy quality and an elegance you simply don't expect from a combo organ. For a lush, authentic combo organ sound with an incredible range of tones, this Continental is tops! Nothing comes close to emulating the rich, edgy organ textures of a Continental, and their tonal versatility made them a favorite of the Beatles, the Doors, Elvis Costello and many others. The Vox Continental stands alone as the only combo organ to feature wooden keys on its earliest versions, and the feel and playability of said keys can not be overstated! The action is smooth and responsive, and the key bushings and felts are in great shape, with no excessive side to side wiggle in the keys and consistent attack. It's common on these organs to see slight discrepancies in key height on these organs, since the height is simply dictated by the tension of the single spring that regulates the action. Rest assured, the organ plays well, and the keys are overall level enough to play without issue. This organ has just been meticulously gone through and serviced by our techs, and all key contacts and drawbar settings are responding as they should. All of the drawbars work well and have been cleaned so as to engage properly at all settings. All of the original burgundy and yellow drawbar tips are intact, and both the Mains and Vibrato switches are original and operational as well. Unlike later Continentals made in Italy, there are also clever Vibrato speed and depth control pot under the hood for further controlling the effect. The power amp has been serviced and recapped as well.Cosmetically, this organ retains its original smooth gray covering and smooth orange top, complete with raised, gold "Vox" logo. There is some light staining and a couple light scratches on the top, and two metal corners have been added. The UK serial number badge and "Vox Continental" logos are both present as well, and the earliest "Continental" logos were plexiglass (as seen here) as opposed to the metal variety on later versions. While the lightly silkscreened text on the logo did wear away long ago, a previous owner "restored" the Vox text with a peace sign over where the Continental text can still faintly be seen. While it looks a bit home brew, suffice it to say that the stock Connie badge is intact. The gray tolex shows only light wear around the edges from honest use and the organ does not come with the latching cover. This organ is fully serviced, sounds incredible and plays very well. If you're looking to coax out the most oft imitated and highly desired combo organ tones, this UK made Vox will do it in spades, with a depth, nuance and variety not found in any other keyboard! The Z leg case is included is one of the rarest accessories offered with the earliest Continentals in that it has a plaid interior and different latches than the later versions. This case is worn, yet still functional with the original latches and handle. The Z legs themselves come with the original braces and show light surface patina on the chrome. The thumbscrew inserts and washers to ensure a snug fit for the legs are newer replacements and their inclusion is notable, as UK Continentals require a different size thread than later iterations. The legs themselves are original vintage Continental hardware, but from a slightly later US or Italian version. Please check out our shop "Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar" on the web, and feel free to call us directly with any questions at 206.399.8518.Shipping in the continental USA will be via FedEx Ground and will cost $150 (legs will be shipped separate from the organ). We use double thick boxes, 1" foam, and industrial 1/2" bubble wrap to assure that your piano arrives safely. Due to the vintage and mechanically complex nature of this item, buyer acknowledges that there is a slight risk involved with shipping this keyboard, and accepts this risk in the unlikely event that the item may need minor adjustment upon arrival. The germanium transistors in this organ are temperature sensitive and the keyboard will stabilize after warming up for a short time. We have safely packed many vintage analog keyboards and fully insure our shipments against loss or damage. We're here to help our customers get to know their vintage keyboards and we really care! International bidders are welcome, but must contact us before bidding or buying for an accurate freight quote.International orders will be declared as “merchandise,” and the value of merchandise will be declared as the amount paid. We cannot declare anything as a gift or for a lesser value. No exceptions! The customer is responsible for all taxes and duty, which may be collected upon delivery, as well as any additional charges involved with import. We do our best to describe all items with honesty and accuracy, but to be sure, please contact us with any questions or concerns prior to bidding or buying.
