Description
Up for a no reserve auction is most likely one of if not the finest example of an original Kay Kraft Venetian Style C guitar left on the planet!!! This guitar is quite remarkable as these were quite lightly built guitars. There has never been any repairs or damage to the guitar EVER and none needed at all. The neck is still STRAIGHT with NO issues at all (very rare on one of these) and the original frets and fingerboard are in almost like new condition and have never been dressed, and do not need to be. The original finish shows no play wear at all, but unfortunately 2 of the 5 slides (NOT INCLUDED with the guitar, but are listed in some of my other auctions, so if interested in some mint to NOS vintage slides, check them out ) that have been with this guitar forever, were floating around in the original hard case and dinged up the back of the headstock a bit and left some minor marks on the back of the neck, other than that and some light checking, mostly on the back of the body, and a few tiny dings on the body here and there, this guitar is immaculate for an 85 year old guitar. It was obviously not played much at all due to the condition, and luckily it was stored away for decades and decades properly with no string tension in a proper climate. Anyway, the mahogany neck is the nicest Kay/ Stromberg neck I have ever played, it is comfortable has a Gibson quality feel, is straight with very low, buzz free action up and down the beautifully inlaid fingerboard. The red Adirondack spruce and rosewood (I am pretty sure Brazilian back with Indian sides) body and mahogany neck are all bound in checkerboard binding which is perfect and issue free. The original Grover banjo pancake style tuners are there and work as they should, though the high E tuner was rotated a bit on the headstock by the original owner. I never messed with it, and it is still as I got it, maybe that was his way of fixing a stripped screw hole? Also, what I do not think is original but correct me if I am wrong was a VERY professionally and artfully inlayed ebony heart with engraved pearl inlays on the pickguard, it is really quite attractive, and adds a bit more bling to an already beautiful instrument!! The original nickel plated tailpiece shines as new, and the very cool bakelite adjustable bridge is also perfect and like new, it is the one with the compensated saddle on one side, and the straight one on the other. Anyway, other than that, the only thing I did was put strings on it, and replace the missing rear strap button. The guitar will come with the vintage Dobro thumb pick and 4 finger picks that have been with this guitar forever, shown in the some of the photos, and comes shipped in what is also an amazing condition and beautifully red lined 1930s hardshell case that has been with this guitar since new. Aside from some minor scuffs on the tolex, the case is in excellent condition, with excellent latches, snap lock and mint leather handle. The case is a bit larger that the guitar (about 15.5 at the lower bout) so the 14.25 wide Venetian body does float around a bit in the case, but this guitar has been with this case since new and will remain with it (the case alone has to be worth 3-400.00!!! as I had a 1932 Larson Stahl with an identical case a few years back!!!! )!!! I have only seen a few of these Style Cs in my life (I have been dealing with vintage guitars for over 35 years now) and none were anywhere near this guitar in condition, playability, or tone (It sounds AWESOME!!!! BTW). Every one I have seen has had some kind of issue(s), especially bowed/twisted necks, raised fingerboards over the body end, cracks, or bodies that are caving in at the adjustable neck joint a bit. This guitar has NO ISSUES AT ALL. It should be in a museum, and is worthy of that!!!! Please look at all the pics and ask any questions you may have. If you need to see more pics, let me know of what. Shipping will always be combined when possible! Shipping will be less than posted the closer you live to NY.
