Up for sale, a 1970's Ovation Preacher model 1281 vintage stereo electric guitar and in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Known for innovative designs and quality craftsmanship, Ovation released an array of guitars that were far ahead of their time, and in the '70s brought their aesthetic to the electric market in the form of the battle axe-shaped Breadwinner and Deacon models. While these guitars had developed a following, players craved the same build quality in a more conventional shape, and Ovation answered with the Les Paul-esque Viper, and the vaguely SG shaped double cutaway Preacher like we have here.Crafted from Honduran mahogany, the guitar has a strong fundamental acoustic tone that translates well through the proprietary humbuckers, which have a great balance of clarity and fatness, never getting as shrill as single coils or muddy as conventional humbuckers. Weighing in at 8lbs 6oz, this guitar balances well on a strap or on a lap when playing seated. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Preacher is strung with fresh 11-50 strings, with low action and solid intonation. The bolt-on mahogany neck has a slender C shaped profile, with a bound ebony fretboard and pearloid dot inlays. The neck is quite slim and allows for very quick and accurate lead work, with a smooth gloss finish on the profile that feels great on the palm. Th guitar has a scale length of 24 3/4" which will feel intuitive to any Gibson enthusiast. The original fretwire is present and in great shape, with well rounded fret crowns and plenty of height and life left. The frets show very little wear, and the neck boasts a responsive truss rod, comfortable action, and no buzzing or dead spots. The nut is a full 1 11/16" width, perfect for easy chording and accurate lead work. On the headstock, the gold Ovation silkscreened logo is present, and the original chrome "Ovation" branded Schaller tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should. The body sports a sunburst finish, two-ply black pickguard, black knobs, and Ovation's signature metal and molded plastic bridge. Electronically, the setup is fairly conventional with dual volume and tone knobs and a three-way pickup selector. In terms of cosmetic wear, there are an expected amount of small bumps and dings in the finish on the instrument as a whole, but nothing particularly notable and this guitar is structurally sound. This instrument is a perfect choice for anyone looking for an guitar that walks the line between classic and unique! The original molded brown Ovation hardshell case is included.
