1982 Fender Strat Dan Smith & John Paige Built for & Used by Ritchie BlackmoreRitchies #2 Strat from the 1984 Deep Purple reunion tour, maintained & modified by Ritchies tech John "Dawk" Stillwell (RIP Dawk)in case anyone is wondering why we have images of Ritchies 1961 Gibson ES335 included here it's just that we have that guitar also, it will be for sale within the next three months, right now the guitar has been the main Deep Purple exhibit at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland OH following the bands induction in 20161982 Fender Strat Dan Smith & John Paige Built for & Used by Ritchie Blackmorecustom built by Dan Smith & John Paige in 1982 built for Ritchie Blackmore,back in 1982 Dan Smith was attempting to turn Fender away from the excess & lack of quality of the CBS era back to the original 1960s style (little did they know that they only had 2 years before Fender would cease production completely), some of the changes Dan made are all featured on this guitar & they remain constant in all of the guitars since reintroduction of the line in 1985/6,1. small headstock2. 4-bolt neck3. truss rod adjustment moved from the 1970s bullet at the headstock end to the cross head bolt at the neck pocket end4. very unusual, the decal is original old stock mid 1960s transitionalDan Smith initiated all of these changes in 1982, the serial number of Ritchies guitar is E2 (1982), it's worth bearing in mind that Dans early 1957 & 1962 reissues from 1982/3 are now commanding $9500 each, Ritchies guitar would be based on a 1962 as it has the rosewood neck,the guitar was used on the 1984 Deep Purple reunion, it was RBs back up guitar ,his number 1 looks exactly the same but pre-dates this one by a few years, you can see the bullet truss rod, large headstock etc, other than these details the two are very hard to tell apart, he had Fender custom build #2 as a support guitar, Fender did so but utilized the return to the 1960s build detailsDan wrote Ritchies name on the end of the neck where the truss rod adjustment is,the strat was customised & maintained from day 1 by Ritchies tech John"Dawk" Stillwell, there is a running narrative taken from Dawks forum where he discusses the guitar in detail, the customizations were standard that he carried out to any strat that Ritchis acquired1. internal radar paint2. internal Dawk built booster3.scalloped fingerboard4. change white bone nut to black graphtech5. change the white control knobs to black to match strat #1 ( there is a photo of Ritchie with the guitar pre parts change, so white knobs, white nut but crucially, no Bullet truss rod & small headstock6. original Deep Purple backstage passes are on the original fender case7. photo of the end of the fingerboard with Ritchies name on there8.this guitar is featured in a magazine that has the red 1961 Gibson ES 335 on the front, Payment by cleared funds only, hand delivery to anywhere in the free world for a reasonable sum.
