Up for sale, a 2001 Gibson Gothic Series Flying V in excellent condition and perfect working order. This rare and discontinued model was built from 1998-2001 as a sort of 100 year celebration of Gibson Mandolin Guitar Manufacturing Ltd. with nods such as a picture of Orville H. Gibson on the back of the headstock, and a star and crescent moon logo on the otherwise bare ebony fretboard, as tribute to the Turkish manufacturer who made the pearl inlays which Gibson became known for in its early days (the star and crescent moon appear on the Turkish flag, albeit reversed, as well as the flag for the Ottoman Empire as it was known at the time). Striking an imposing look on stage, the Gothic Series guitars are dressed head to toe in all black, and this Flying V boasts a set of 496R and 500T Gibson humbuckers which have a hefty output for driving the front end of any tube amp. These pickups work great with a variety of drive pedals as well, easily pushing your tone into saturated sustain and a perfect choice for more aggressive styles of guitar playing. The mahogany neck has a nice round feeling medium C profile that is slim enough for faster playing while still having some "meat on the bone", so to speak. The dark ebony fretboard sports the original 22 medium-jumbo frets that bear virtually nothing in the way of wear, with smooth crowns and plenty of height. The headstock boasts a black "Gibson" truss rod cover, and a set of black Grover tuning machines that turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The mahogany body sports a satin black finish, black hardware, and chrome top knobs. Cosmetically, there's is very wear little to speak of, with the only things worth mentioning being a small nick on the very tip of the backside of the headstock, as well as two scratches on the bottom edge and back of the guitar, just south of the neck pickup. Otherwise, this is a very clean example of an uncommon model that sounds as sleek as it looks. The original brown tolex Gibson hardshell case is included.
