Up for sale, a 2002 Fender Mustang Bass '69 vintage reissue "Competition" model in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Crafted in Japan, this Mustang is a faithful and discontinued reissue of the classic shortscale Fender model, with a factory installed split coil Seymour Duncan pickup! Finished in rare and desirable Ocean Turquoise Metallic and accented by a Competition racing stripe and white pearloid pickguard, this is easily one of the most eye-catching Mustang Basses ever offered by Fender. This iteration of the Mustang Bass was also made exclusively for the Japanese domestic market and is rarely seen outside its country of origin. There's a certain pluck and punch unique to this bass that's particularly appealing and sits well in a mix, with a thump that doesn't have quite the breadth of a Precision pickup, but still fills out the low end nicely. A bit more aggressive and midrange forward than a P, this Mustang Bass is strung with roundwound strings for an articulate top end and balanced lows. The instrument weighs in at 8lbs 2oz. We've had this Mustang dialed in to perfection here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with optimal action and spot-on intonation. The maple neck features a medium C shaped profile and the roundness and shoulders on the profile increase quite a bit in the higher registers of the fretboard. The fretboard is a generous *slab* of rosewood which adds a real richness and warmth to the overall tone. The scale length is 30", while the fretboard radius retains vintage 7 1/4" spec, and the nut width measures 1 1/2". The stock slender fretwire is near mint, with virtually no wear with well rounded crowns. On the headstock, the clover button tuning gears turn very smoothly and the block "Mustang Bass" logo is present on the headstock face. The simple and straightforward electronics work as they should, with Master Volume and Tone controls to govern the split coil Seymour Duncan pickup. The chrome bridge and control plate shine like new and the white pearloid pickguard is a nice contrast to the bluish green shades of the Ocean Turquoise finish. Cosmetically, there is only one decent sized mark of impact on the treble side lower bout of the body just south of the controls as seen in the included close-up photo. Otherwise, this bass has been extremely well cared for since new.The original Fender gigbag is included.
