As you can see from the pictures, the guitar is presently set up to play in a 6 string configuration. However all that would be required to swap it over to a 12 string configuration is a 12 string nut and bridge.This guitar was originally made by the Rickenbacker factory in early 2012 as one of a batch of just ten limited edition six string guitars painted in a Pearl White finish and with an f sound hole rather than the typical Rickenbacker slash sound hole. All 10 of the Pearl White six string f-hole guitars made in 2012 were exported to the United Kingdom (as were the original "Rose Morris" f-hole Rickenbacker export guitars made back in 1964).
The six string Pearl White guitars were made using the '60's style X-braced body and neck of the "C series" vintage reissue Rickenbacker model 360/12C63 12 string guitar but with the f-hole rather than the standard C63 slash hole and with a dot inlay fretboard and no body or neck binding. The model 360/12C63 reissue recreates the specification of George Harrison's famous original 12 string guitar (as used on A Hard Day's Night etc).
I had this particular guitar professionally converted from one of the original ten Pearl White six string guitars to a specification identical to the original '60's Rose Morris export model 1993 12 string guitars. This conversion work entailed: 1) routing the C63 headstock for 12 strings and adding the extra six tuners 2) swapping out the original gold pickguards and truss rod cover for white ones 3) Adding body binding 4) Stripping the Pearl White solid paint and repainting the guitar in Fireglo (all the original Rose Morris model 1993 guitars which were exported to England in 1964/5, without exception, were painted Fireglo). All work on this guitar has been undertaken to the highest standards and with no expense spared by William Young - one of the world's most respected restorers/refinishers of rare and vintage Rickenbackers. The guitar will come with an original RIC vintage reissue case - please note that this is a used case in good condition and it was not the case originally supplied with the guitar when I bought it (as the Pearl White guitars came with basic black plastic RIC cases originally). Condition This guitar was created from a brand new and unplayed Pearl White limited edition guitar and is still in as new condition with just the lightest of usage signs from polishing, set-up and minimal playing to test after refinishing etc. The guitar plays beautifully and is the closest I have experienced in a modern made Rickenbacker to the tone and playability that you would typically get from an early '60's original Rickenbacker 6/12 string. The last picture is a side-by-side shot of this guitar next to an unaltered Pearl White six string from the same batch of 10 that came to England in 2012. The picture shows the transformation which has taken place to turn this guitar into an accurate recreation of a Rose Morris export model 1993.
