First off I must say this is one of the most beautifully playing and sounding banjos I have ever had the joy to play and own which is many. It needs no set up or anything it plays amazingly with the original frets and the great set up done by Mandolin Brothers before they went out of business after Stan the owner passed recently. Beautiful Whyte Laydie #2 5 string banjo.in amazing original condition. This banjo is a great player with plenty of life left in the frets. Bought from Mandolin Brothers a few years back. Comes with some of the original accessories and a receipt from a previous owner from a famous and one of the first Vintage Musical Instrument stores. The Banjo has great action and plays wonderfully. The famed Gryphon-Fish pearl inlay is in perfect condition and it's hard to believe how old this instrument is. No cracks etc to worry about. Somebody during the course of its long life was going to add another tuner or something and then stopped they did not go thru the headstock only a tiny wooden cap has been but there as a repair and the back of the headstock is smooth even in this spot, seems like this happened a very long time ago and does not affect playability or structural integrity at all. The banjo has a beautiful warm plucky steel string sound with a crisp treble response with nice pleasant mids and beautiful bass response. 10 15/16" pot 27" scale. With either original or very old calf skin head which sounds better than any modern type head in every way imaginable.
