MAGNIFICENT VINTAGE LARGE CEREMONIAL ASIAN HAND DRUM AND RATTLE FROM THE SOUTH CENTRAL ASIA REGION, MOST LIKELY BURMA OR NEPAL. THE DRUM HEAD IS BEAUTIFULLY HAND PAINTED AND MOST LIKELY MADE FROM SHEEP SKIN. THE ENTIRE BODY IS COVERED WITH RECTANGULAR PIECES OF BONE WHICH HAVE BEEN PRECISELY HAND CUT, EXPERTLY CARVED WITH DECORATIVE SYMBOLS, AND PERFECTLY FIT TOGETHER. THE ORIGINAL PATINA IS STILL INTACT.THE REVERSE SIDE OF THE DRUM IS ADORNED WITH HAND POURED, HAND CHASED NICKEL SILVER ATTACHMENTS. EACH OF THESE ARE INLAID WITH RED CORAL AND BLUE TURQUOISE STONES.THE HANDLE IS ALSO PERFECTLY CARVED TO FIT COMFORTABLY IN THE PALM. IT HAS A REMOVABLE PLUG ATTACHED TO THE BODY BY A CHAIN THAT FITS VERY SNUGLY INTO THE HANDLE. THE CENTER OF THE HANDLE HAS A HOLE WHICH LEADS TO THE INTERIOR OF THE BODY. PEBBLES OR BEADS CAN BE EASILY SLIPPED INSIDE TO PRODUCE THE DESIRED "RATTLE" SOUND.THE DRUM HEAD MEASURES 7" ACROSS AND IS 2" THICK. THE HANDLE MEASURES 4" LONG AND 4" ROUND AT IT'S THICKEST POINT.THIS PIECE IS A TRULY MAGNIFICENT WORK OF ART. QUITE POSSIBLY ONE OF A KIND. THE ORIGINAL PATINA IS STILL INTACT.
