Up for auction is a Vintage 1976 Ovation Viper Electric Guitar in the beautiful Natural finish (serial # E 6215). Includes the original hard shell case and the original instruction booklet and registration pamphlet. Very good vintage condition with the only real deficiencies being a few heavy gouges in the bass side of the body (see pic) and the numbers on the volume knob control knob are faded and there is a small crack in the knob. Guitar is all original including a Maple neck and fingerboard and an Alder body. Unique Ovation branded tuners and Ovation built bridge that has height adjustment, intonation adjustment and even a bridge tilt adjustment (that is the screw you see on the back of the guitar). The pickups are also unique to Ovation with the poles on the bridge pickup laid out in a diagonal pattern to accentuate the treble tones. (I measured resistance on the neck pickup at 9.5 ohms and the bridge pickup at 8.2 ohms.) This guitar plays and sounds great, really easy and fun to play. These ovation solid bodies really just do not get the credit they deserve due to being overshadowed by the very highly regarded Ovation acoustic guitars. All electronics, etc. work properly. No pot or input jack scratchiness. There is some fret wear as this was definitely a players guitar. The action at the 12th fret currently measures 2 mm which I think is perfect. There is no fret out or buzzing that I can detect. (As always, I would recommend a professional setup to match your playing style and to get the best possibly playability from this guitar.) I have done the best I can to describe this guitar, but I am not an expert. Please view the pictures and use the zoom feature to determine condition and characteristics for yourself. If you are a fan of these vintage Ovation solid bodies, bid strong, because they do not come up for auction very often.
