Description

Up for sale is this fantastic Vox AC30-T amplifier head. Manufactured in 1964, this AC-30 delivers all the classic Vox tones you would expect from a hand-wired JMI masterpiece. This is the "treble" version of the AC-30.  AC-30s from this area came in three versions: the bass, normal, and treble.  The difference between the three comes down to a few minor differences in capacitors.  Most players prefer the treble version if given a choice between the three. The top boost add-on is not installed on this particular amp, but would further add to the range of tones.  The amp is currently in it's stock configuration, but a top boost module can be installed where the back plate is currently installed. There is a factory cut out for a top boost module behind the back plate, as was the normal practice. Incidentally, the back plate is original and an example of the rare transitional plastic variety used in the Spring of 1964. All important components of the amplifier are original. The chassis, cabinet, grill cloth, transformers, knobs, are all original. The grill cloth is in decent shape, especially given its natural fragility.  The original plastic corners are surprisingly all intact and in good shape.  The original Woden transformers date to August of 1962.  It is currently powered by a set of vintage Pinnacle EL84 power tubes, which were manufactured in Japan.  It has been routinely serviced over its lifetime (and has been recently recapped prior to its sale) and currently sounds great. However, you may want to have a tech go over it to ensure that everything is running according to your preferred specs. A few small changes have been made to the amp in order to ease it's harmonious use with modern equipment. The old, now obsolete, output jacks have been replaced with standard quarter inch jacks, with an option for an 8 ohm or 16 ohm load.  A "wooden" Tweed Fender-style footswitch has replaced the original "egg" switch.  The handle is a modern replacement, as are two outer "vents" (the one in the middle looks original).  The power cord looks to be a three-prong replacement as well.  The chassis has been shifted a tiny bit towards the right as two new (non-visible) holes were added adjacent to the originals so that the chassis would mount securely to the back panel (the original holes had begun to strip).  As noted, this change is not visible when the chassis is mounted to the back panel.  The handle also looks to me to be a replacement, although it does look older.  One back panel screw is missing.   All in all, this is a well-maintained and classic sounding Vox AC-30 Super Twin head with much to offer the player and collector alike.   The price is $2499.99 or best offer.  Shipping is $59.99 to the domestic USA.  International shipping will be through the eBay global shipping program.
