Williams Keytar - Keyboard/Guitar with both hardshell case and soft-shell gigbag and owner's manual.Used only in non-smoking studio - never gigged! THIS IS NOT A MIDI CONTROLLER - DOES NOT HAVE SYNTH SOUNDS!There is a Youtube video demo entitled:Williams Keytar V2 DemonstrationThis video features keyboardist Eric Rango (keyboardist for Seven Witches)(Note: The Keytar Company is no longer in business - Keytar Inc is a dead link.) This is one for the collectors of the rare and odd spectrum of the keyboard realm. The Williams Keytar was produced here in my hometown of Fort Smith, Arkansas. I am friends with inventor Vinson Williams. I acquired this unit from the first and only production run of the V2 (2 octave version) of the Williams Keytar. I am selling the unit because I need to purchase an expensive digital controller/mixer surface for my Pro Tools Studio due to increasing clientele and projects. The Williams Keytar is a bonafide instrument in its own right. It's designed to be a guitar played by a keyboard player. The V2 version has a two octave keyboard to make chords and strings to strum in the right hand. The guitar portion sports EMG pickups with tone and volume knobs in a guitar friendly position. Best use is when played through a guitar amp or effects pedal. I use my studio's Roland Cube 30 guitar amp with modeled amps and effects. I can also run it straight into my DAW and use Amplitude - both produce very realistic rhythm guitar sounds. The basic concept is based off the Hohner Clavinet but with the strings open to allow strumming. The V2 has 24 strings since each key on the keyboard has its own string. Each string has a tuning key and stays in tune surprisingly well. The strings are typical Banjo Strings of two different gauges. With a little practice, it produces realistic electric guitar chording and nuances such as muted rhythmic chunks (producing harmonic overtones just like a real guitar) that would be near impossible on a synth keyboard using a guitar sample (add a wah wah and you can play Voodoo Child!). This string/key configuration requires the player to learn to strategically determine where to strum while chording since deadened strings produce the muted "chunk" noise. With patience, practice and good real world guitar sensibilities concerning effect sounds and amp models, one can play pretty convincing guitar passages. I've used the Williams Keytar in my studio to produce guitar tracks on demos of original songs in order to give my guitar players a better idea of what I was hearing for a guitar part - very affective - I often left my keytar tracks in the mix!. I've played keys my entire life but had only the most basic skills of playing real guitar - the main problem being the dexterity for playing clean, precise chords on guitar. The Williams Keytar made chording simple.I get a great discount for shipping through my employer. I pass this discount on to the buyer - I do not make money on shipping. This will be a heavy package but you’ll notice the shipping is very reasonable. Will be professionally packed and shipped by our company’s Shipping Department.See my other current synth auctions!
