Description

1958 H833 ROY SMECK Guitar VERY RARE only made 1 year1958 Harmony H833 Roy Smeck Guitar Grand Auditorium 41" x 16 3/8"
DeArmond Hershey Bar pickup with DeArmond volume and tone control
Jet black polished finish, spruce top, hardwood body. Edges highly protected
with polished "Harmometal Trim". Ebony fret board. Estate sale find several years ago. When discovered it had set under tension for who knows how long. The action was very high. The tone control didn't work. Several surface humidity cracks needed to be investigated. It set for quite awhile before I decided to have it restored. In doing research I saw a Harmony H833 in excellent condition with out the 1950's DeArmond pickup or volume or tone control sold for $2700 at TR Crandal guitars in NYC.....WOW....This convinced me it needed to be restored and would justify the cost. I took it to my go to luthier here in New Orleans, Sal Giardina, at Stinged Instuments Restorations. He assured me it could be restored to great playing condition. He rehydrated the guitar which closed the few surface cracks. His investigation insured every thing was now stable and secure He reset the neck. Redid the frets and sent the volume and tone control unit to a vintage DeArmond repairman in WI. I inquired about having it repainted. I didn't like the paint loss on the back very bottom edge or along the left side bottom. He said a VINTAGE guitar finish should never be repaired. So I took the advice of my expert. This thing now plays like a dream.... unplugged or plugged in. I have a friend who has used it numerous time to record with. He loved it. I have purchased a new ESP plush lined Auditorium size HSC to store it in. My friend here in New Orleans at International Vintage guitars said it's probably worth $1600. Dr. bills say maybe I should sell. At a $1100 it's bargin for someone.
