| You are bidding on the an amazing and RARE BGW model 203 preamplifier. Unit was recently serviced, and completely gone through/ checked over by Paul at Pro Digital Inc. in Broomall, PA. They are one of the best repair shops in the area, and have been in business for over 20 years! Output transistors were replaced on both channels. Everything else was thoroughly inspected and checked, & unit functions like new. Over $250 was spent on servicing the unit. Bid with confidence. These do not come up for auction often! This particular 203 was manufactured in the USA in Hawthorne, CA in 1978. It's the non-rackmount version, and originally it was purchased from BGW with a wooden case made of walnut. We do not have the original wood case, but if someone wanted to have one fabricated to restore and match an all-BGW component system, I'm sure a local woodshop could easily do it. The model 203 was typically paired with the model 410 amplifier when purchased for home use, and the 410 also came in a matching walnut case. This preamp has a multitude of functions which include bass/treble control for each channel, filers, gain, tape monitor, and it also has 2 phono RIAA circuits. It is all solid state, and sounds incredible. This is an amazing unit which was hand made in the USA and was state of the art at the time it was built. Rack plate and chassis may have a few scrapes, blemishes etc.. but un-noticible when racked, Please see photos. BGW systems was founded in 1971 by Brian Gary Wachner while he worked for National Semi Conductor as a field applications engineer. The company was known particularly for their high quality power amplifiers, and gained worldwide attention when Universal Studios selected them to supply hundreds of the model 750 and 750A amplifiers for their Sensurround cinema subwoofer sound effects systems. |
