Up for sale is this rare, vintage 1980s Korg Poly 61 analog polyphonic synthesizer in overall good condition. It sounds amazing and I was able to load in the original factory set patches successfully. The downside is that the synth is about 90% fully functional (look at LED Display and Hold LED below). Test / Analysis:
- Has MIDI retrofit done! I've tested the MIDI IN and OUT with my Akai MPK261 w/ Logic X, and was able to trigger the synth externally, and also use the Korg Poly 61 as a MIDI controller successfully.- Arpeggiator works great! Speed, Latch, Range and Mode all functions properly.- Hold Function: this function works properly and sustains the notes triggered, however, the LED only lights up once when triggered, but won't stay on. Does not affect the "Hold" functionality, simply the LED could be replaced. - Write Function: works properly. I tested by modifying a patch's parameters, then saved over another patch number, and reloaded the saved patch correctly.
- Patch number buttons work properly.- Value (Up/Down) buttons work properly & change parameter settings smoothly.- Tune Knob works properly.- Joystick Bend and Frequency knobs work properly.- Volume Knob works properly (no scratchy pot)- Joystick: all of the triggers for DCO / VCF and Pitch Up / Down work properly. The base of the joystick shows a slight crack, but still works okay (shown in photo).- LED Display: this is where the synth shows display flaws- the actual functions all work properly, however, there are a few odd symbols that should be displayed as numbers. The good is that numbers 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 display correctly. The bad is that numbers 1, 2 and 3 don't. Instead of a "1" you get a "4" type figure; instead of a "2" you get a "P" type figure; and instead of a "3" you get a "9" symbol. I did notice that if I set the keyboard upright on its side, the numbers showed correctly for a brief moment, so that makes me think that this could be an easy fix such as a loose connection in the LED display section under the board. (I know, a random keyboard position, but I discovered this when I was checking a feature on the synth and the audio cable didn't reach unless I put it on its side). Unfortunately after I lay the synth flat back to normal position, the LED display went back to odd symbols for numbers 1-3. Synth w/ a few odd symbols still works though!- 61 Keys: these all work okay, however, they could use a contact cleaning / touch up. Every now and then a note or two won't trigger unless you tap it a little harder, not very often at all though.- Keyboard Chasis / Body: looks to be in great condition. Just a few minor scratches and some minimal wear. That is a very thorough analysis of testing the functions of the synth to the best of my ability. Better to be honest and thorough so you don't get any surprises. It truly does sound amazing & hate to see this one go, but could use a new owner who can give it some TLC and hopefully have a tech run through it to bring it from 90% to 100%.All orders come with a free Gnome Music Shop sticker!
