Open-holes is not mandatory for any student, but it will enrich the quality of sound, give the opportunity for more styles of playing and will help students adopt the perfect hand/wrist position. It is important that a student looks to move to open-holes fairly soon into their development and they should adapt quickly with the right tutoring. Hole plugs can make this transition much easier and can be taken out one at a time to get used to the finger positioning.
