Very rare and beautiful antique German violin imported by August Germunder & Sons New York, labeled "No. 174 The "ALARD" Violin TRADE-MARK New York, U.S.A." & "AGS", August Gemunder & Sons initial trademark. Striking woods used throughout. What I believe to be ebony pegs, fingerboard and tailpiece. The E string features a fine tuner marked "GERMANY". Violin measures 14" L (body) 8 1/4" W 23 1/2" Total length. The case measures 31" L. Purchased at an estate sale in Washington D.C. in the early 90's. This piece was taken to a violin shop and they said the following areas were in need of attention:Top and rib crack, new corner on the top treble side, sound post, strings, rework pegs, and clean and polish.Please see pictures to judge condition. I know very little about violins but have described this item verbally and in photos to the best of my ability. If you have questions please don't hesitate to ask.
