The Apollo 8p is a pro interface/mic pre with great clarity from UA's newly designed signal path and A/D conversion. These converters are amazing and I could tell a big difference stepping up to the Apollo from my old converters. A lot more detail and warmth from the mic pres. The Apollo comes with 8 mic inputs, so it is a great unit if you want to track drums or a full band. I really like the low latency processing which allows you to record with active plugins and print them directly to the track, and also freeing up your computer. Their are some amazing sounding models of vintage hardware like the 1176, LA-2A, and Fairchild compressors, and also Pultec EQs. If you have external mic pre's, the Apollo mic pre can be bypassed and you will just be going through the converters. These are professional grade converters and a solid versatile unit. Some of the paint on the unit has been chipped from when I racked the unit. These areas are only around the holes where the unit is racked and I have attached some pictures of the cosmetic damage. The unit is perfectly functional.
