Up for sale, a 1968 Fender Telecaster in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This vintage Tele has been well cared for and is 100% original aside from a professional refret. With a transparent blonde finish over an ash body, this Tele has a the midrange power, detail, and punch associated with that particular tone wood. Resonant and authoritative, this Tele weighs in at 8lbs and balances well on a strap. All pickup positions are distinct and very usable, with glassy Tele twang and sparkle that can be easily coaxed from the bridge pickup. With both pickups engaged, the tone is balanced and ideal for rhythm playing, with a percussive cut that's complimented by the inherent warmth of the ash body and clear note attack of the maple fretboard. With the neck pickup singled out, things thicken up quite a bit, and it's a warm, harmonically rich sound that retains the clarity needed for complex chord voicings. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, we've dialed in this Tele with 10-46 strings, comfortable action, and solid intonation. The neck has a medium C profile that borders on the chunkier side of things, feeling substantial and round. The entire profile has light figuring in the maple, and the original smooth gloss nitro lacquer finish is present on the entire profile. The rosewood fretboard retains the original 7 1/4" radius, and the professional refret was done with wire that has a bit more girth and height than vintage Fender fretwire while still being just shy of "medium jumbo." These frets show virtually no wear and the guitar plays cleanly up the neck, which is arrow straight with a responsive truss rod. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width, and this is the most common of the traditional Fender widths, providing ideal string spacing and matching the fretboard radius well. On the headstock, the original Fender "F" chrome tuning machines are intact, and these tuners still turn smoothly and work as they should with original bushings and screws. These tuners are at one time replaced with Klusons, but the originals are now back on the guitar, covering all but one small additional screw hole. The original "Fender Telecaster" block logo is clean and intact as well. All of the electronics work as they should, with Stackpole pots that date back to late '65, a feature common with all late '60s Fenders, as CBS purchased a bulk of pots that lasted from the mid-60s through the end of the decade. An earlier yellow Astron tone cap has been substituted for the original (cheaper) ceramic disc, and this tone cap sounds particularly sweet. Both pickups are stock with cloth wire and original windings, and the bridge pickup has a '68 date code on the gray fiber base. The body routes are original and unmodified, and all of the original hardware is intact including the patent number Fender ashtray bridge base, knurled metal knobs, top hat switch tip, original three-ply white pickguard, and even the chrome bridge cover! The body features a moderately yellowed and 100% original blonde finish, and although it's hard to capture in the photos, the grain of the ash can be seen through the finish. Beneath the pickguard, the finish is notably, lighter, and there's a bit of wear through the finish on the edge of the slab body where the forearm crosses the instrument. The chrome hardware is incredibly clean and has plenty of shine, an the body wear is very minimal, consisting of only a few light nicks and faint finish scratches. The finish shows no touchups or overspray, and the on the neck, the fretboard has some wear beneath the plain strings down to the bare maple. The original black tolex hardshell case with orange interior is included. This case retains all three working latches as well as the original handle.
