1990 Gibson Les Paul '59 Flametop Pre-Historic R9. Before the introduction for the Historic series in 1993, Gibson where developing the 1959 Les Paul reissue with models like the Heritage 80 and Heritage elite. By 1990-91 Gibson had the blue print for the Historic series and the 1990-91 '59 Flametops where the benchmark for the new series. This example is a beauty to behold, looks like it's hardly been played with no mark,ding or scratches to speak of. I wouldn't call it collector grade as it opens up a can of worms but a solid 9.5/10 is fair as there are some light plec marks and dings if you hold it up to the light and are hyper critical about it.! The colour is dark heritage cherry and very much like old school "Honey burst". Bill Lawrence pickups ( the ones with the circuit looking board back.) and Orange drop caps. The neck on this one falls between the 1959 and 1960 shape, More like the V2 R0. It has the depth of a 1960 but the full round edge of a 1959. Comes with Ohsc but no paperwork, as gibson didn't do COA or paperwork back then, although I have contacted Gibson USA and had the guitar verified and have a copy of that email. I can supply more photo's if required. These guitars are rare and highly sort after, espeacially in this conditon and colour. £4250 is a good price as i've seen these go for £5-6K so please no silly offers or swap deals.
