Here is a classic french ANTOINE COURTOIS PARIS breveté model flugelhorn. This horn is silverplated and in good condition for its age. Serial number is 6474, so it was manufactured probably in the 60ies (hard to determine, there are no serial number records available). ANTOINE COURTOIS is among France's oldest and biggest brass instrument brands (their history goes back to 1850).This vintage brevete model was the top of the professional Courtois line from the 20ies to the 70ies of the last century - the choice of many famous players. Maynard Ferguson used to play exactly this model before he was endorsed by Holton in the 70ies. On the valve block, there is the serial number, A.COURTOIS PARIS and the valves are numbered .Valve Bore size is .410 of an inch (10.5mm), the bell diameter is 6.1 inches (155mm).The valves are smooth and fast with good compression, all slides pop when drawn out, all caps and screws are free . The brass alloy of this vintage horn is still in good condition. The original silverplating is 95% with spots of wear inside the bell flare and on the first and third valve slide. Everything appears to be in good original condition. There are some visible scratches and small dings from normal use on the valve block and on the main crook. Also I find a small dent that is visible on foto 11. This horn was obviously well maintained during all time, no signs of repair. Also, there is no red hot or corrosion. The best thing about this rare vintage horn is its outstanding playability and sound though, almost warmer and even fuller than newer comparable Courtois models. The mouthpiece is an original Courtois Nr. 6 which fits well with its french taper that enters all the way into the receiver. The mouthpiece has some signs of wear, but plays and feels great with this horn. Sorry no case.I offer this flugelhorn from Switzerland to worldwide. Airmail shipping to the States is $53, please ask for other international destinations.
