Description
For your Consideration: Selling one of Tascam's anecdotally speaking, one of the great desktop analog 8-track multitrack cassette recorder and 12 channel capability mixer ever manufactured, The Tascam 488 Portastudio equipped with the most effective DBX noise reduction system of its kind. On the upside, it is worth having this indispensable 488 machine around in any audio or video environment to add substantial life to any cold masterings that perhaps only a tape based format can ever deliver. As a desk top mixer, the 488's 12-channel input alone is an amazing value enough to justify its staple purpose in any home based or pro studio alike..don't missed out on this opportunity to own it!
It's all you need for capturing that missing body of warmth sound character unattainable by the ubiquitous ones and zeros counterpart.Prior to posting, countless hours spent given a 20 point tune up including but not limited to, opening the machine layer by layer, board by board. New belt installed, tape transport rejuvenated, heads demagnetized. Lubrication and deoxit all knobs, controls & majority of electronics, as well as many relevant connections where necessarily important to ensure proper contact, static free and smooth operation. All stubborn tact switches replaced with compatible parts or better to last years of trouble free operation. Now the Play, Rew, FF, Record and all pertinent function buttons respond like new and smooth as butter.Furthermore, buffed and detailed clean every crevice every line to free from dusts with even some retouching may be involved in the refurbishing process. Now the downside, on bench tests although every single buttons work as should, records and plays with motor mechanism as strong as intended and ready to put in service once again. However, group track 4/8 are not registering in the record mode. And output "4" isn't producing sound at any level. All 12 inputs are fine. I did not further pursue investigation or troubleshooting. Therefore, this item is selling "AS IS" in described condition and be prepared to tackle the challenge and able to find necessary components or measures to get this formidable system in full scale operational capacity. The 488 is no longer in production and becoming a hard commodity and very sought after due to its professional quality result of any studio or live recording project and ease of use that is still relevant in digital culture of today! So grab it while it lasts!Like most vintages, some superficial imperfections and cosmetic are almost expected but in no way impede normal functionality.Shipping and handling may vary on location.
