How often do you see a 4002 for sale a decent price?? NEVER!! I’ve owned two of these wonderful instruments and they are phenomenal!! This 1984 manufactured instrument was by far the better of the two. The 4002 is as rare as hen’s teeth to find for sale, anywhere. Manufactured to compete with active basses, this bass has both the mono & stereo outputs that most post 68 Rickenbacker basses have plus it has a factory XLR low impedance jack. The pickups are “J bass” spaced and are a super high gain humbucking type, specific only to the 4002. All 4002’s featured ebony fretboards and Schaller m4 tuners. The wood selected for all 4002’s was hand selected and highly figured maple in either natural maple or walnut finish. All 4002’s featured checkerboard binding. As most of you know, the 4002 was produced between 1977 and 1984 to compete with Alembic and other high dollar instruments. It is considered a studio instrument because of it's XLR output circuit. I've gigged 4002's live before and the tone is breath taking!! Fewer than a hundred of these instruments were produced and they are prized collectables. There are two that show up on ebay for sale at 3 times what I'm asking. This bass functions flawlessly and sounds amazing!!! Check it out here!! https://youtu.be/z1T_eM9yR7k The Walnut finish is exceptional and the quilted figuring on the grain is like no other!! The neck contour is thin and fast!! This bass will come securely packed in a nice mid 80’s period RIC tolex case with contoured interior. You will not find a better deal on a 4002, anywhere, since you never see them for sale!! |
