Description

This listing is for a very rare vintage Lachenal 35-key concertina. Previously, this instrument was owned by an elderly lady in Grosse Pointe, MI, where it sat in a glass display case in her home for many years. Beyond that, I could not get the complete background story. From the research I've done on this, the serial number indicates that this concertina is from the 1890's. The serial number is 53568. As you can see in the pictures, it has been well-played as is evidenced by the finger wear around the rests and keys. The bellows move air nicely, with no leaks and the sound is incredible. There is a number that was engraved into one of the edges, which I am unsure of its significance. Maybe it's a European phone number of the original owner, or perhaps a registration number for an orchestral inventory list. I don't know. The number is 374363750. If you know anything about this, please share what you know. I'm very curious. So really, the only issues I notice that could use addressing are the missing thumb rest (the screws are still there), the worn-out and mostly-missing leather thumb-straps, and there is one key that is open (the lever still moves when the key is pressed, so most likely the valve pad needs new cork/felt). I found all of these repair items available at concertina-spares.com. (Probably also available from other sources, for those in the know.) I considered making the fixes myself, but I think it is best that the buyer handle the repairs, in case they prefer to use original repair parts. Also, because I have no idea how the use of aftermarket parts might affect the value or sound. Considering the few other 35-key examples I found were sold in the UK for 1900-2000 GBP in restored condition, I believe my price is very fair. Please review all the images and ask all questions before placing your bid. This item is being sold as-is and there are no warranties expressed or implied. Thanks for looking at my listings! Happy Bidding & Best of Luck!!!
