Bechstein Model V Grand Piano With A Polished Rosewood Case C.1894 A beautiful Bechstein Model V grand piano made in Berlin circa 1894. Polished rosewood casework in excellent condition, round tail cabinet, ornate filigree music desk, turned ice cream cone style legs, twin column fluted pedal lyre, iron frame, overstrung, 7 1/4 octaves, 88 note original keyboard in good condition, instrument in excellent working order having undergone a full refurbishment around 5 years ago including new Abel hammers and rollers, full restring, frame and soundboard refinishing and casework French polish. Action is smooth and even and the piano produces a warm, noble Bechstein tone, tuned and serviced January 2017. A high quality, well maintained example by the illustrious German maker. Dimensions L 203cm x W 150cm Bechstein History The Bechstein name is synonymous with Germany's finest piano building traditions. Carl Bechstein opened his piano factory under the name of C. Bechstein in Berlin, Germany in 1853 (the same year Steinway established the Steinway factory in New York). The firm's reputation for building superior instruments spread quickly and during the 19th Century Bechstein was one of the most celebrated piano builders in the world. These 19th Century Bechstein pianos were known for having a very melodic tonal quality enjoyed by many of the notable composers of the time. Carl Sr. died in 1900, leaving the firm to his sons Carl Jr., Johann and Edwin. The firm continued to celebrate massive success well into the 20th Century. Bechstein is one of the few piano manufacturers in the world to survive 160+ years, and they are still building exceptional pianos today.
