For Sale: 1 x CAPI VP26 Mic Preamp with Litz wire Transformers and 'Red Dot' 2520 Op Amp.Fully assembled and tested. These are the variable gain version (rather than stepped.)PLEASE NOTE THIS PRICE IS FOR ONE PRE AMP. THERE ARE TWO MORE AVAILABLE.I first tried one of these at Echo Mountain Recording in North Carolina. I was working in their API room (they have a beautiful white API 3288 console which sounds incredible) when I got talking to the in house engineer about console maintenance (I help maintain an API in the UK) and he told me that they had stopped using stock API 2520 op amps and started using Scot Leibers' 'Red Dot' version instead - the current API stock apparently just didn't sound like the vintage ones. Interesting. (Perhaps goes someway in explaining why the vintage API consoles are so much better than the new ones.) He also invited me to try out a kit preamp he had built which had one of these 'Red Dot' op amps in. It sounded identical to the console. I couldn't believe it. It was a VP26. I had, until that point been very sceptical about the merits of the DIY kits, having heard a few that were ok, but not the real deal. However what Jeff Steiger at CAPI has done is incredible. I also compared the VP26 to the various modern API pre's in the studio (3124 & 512C) and it literally blew them away. I then discovered that they worked out at about half the price of the API equivalent. Long story short, I bought a load and put them together. I use them on every session I do. I have three left over that are for sale and will be placing another order including some of the VP28 that I've yet to try, but are getting rave reviews. Please get in touch if there is something specific from CAPI you would like to have built.These have been meticulously assembled using the best quality solder and wire.Returns accepted and pre's come with a 6 month guarantee (UK only.)(Buyer must pay for insured and tracked return postage.)
